Oris move forward with their “Change for the Better” campaign with the release of the new Oris Aquis GMT Whale Shark watch, a limited edition designed in support of the endangered whale shark. Working alongside Oris ambassador Gerardo del Villar, an experienced explorer and photographer who began photographing whale sharks more than 15 years ago, the Aquis divers’ model has been carefully designed to reflect the magnificent beauty of the whale with a unique textured dial inspired by whale shark skin and a special engraved case back decorated with an image of the endangered species beside its limited edition status. In 2016, the IUCN made the stark announcement that the global population of whale sharks had halved over the previous 75 years and with this in mind, Oris have brought attention to the date with the Oris Aquis GMT Whale Shark watch limited to exactly 2,016 pieces. It’s 43.5mm stainless steel case is paired with a bi-directional rotating ceramic bezel with 24 hour scale, which when used in conjunction with the orange arrow-shaped GMT hand can be used to tell a second time zone. The bezel is also dressed in black and blue for use as a day and night indicator. The case promises a 300 metre water resistant rating and is equipped with a screw in crown, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating and a matching stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp with diver’s extension. Housed within the Oris Aquis Whale Shark Limited Edition is the Oris 798 automatic movement, a Swiss watch calibre with a power reserve of 42 hours and 25 jewels.
